Belfast burns; UK remains tense as Sudanese immigrant’s knife crime brings hate back to streets

It will go down as one of the darkest days in the UK as protest against the attempted beheading of an Irish man by a Sudani immigrant turned violent in the streets of northern Ireland’s capital city Belfast.

On Monday late evening 40 year old Stephen Ogilvie was knifed by Hadi Alodid a Sudani immigrant in the streets of Belfast. The crime was caught on camera as onlookers managed to save Stephen’s life.

But what followed was absolute mayhem in the streets of Belfast. By Tuesday evening the streets were lighted with burning cars and houses of immigrants were picked up for large scale attack by marauding crowds led by the far right. Peaceful neighborhoods became battle grounds as security forces struggled to bring any sort or order.

Fire and rescue worked through the night to rescue people from many burning houses. Hadi was produced in court and remanded to four weeks of custody.

While news of fresh protest comes from across the country Prime Minister Keir Starmer has warned strict action against the rioters.

Belfast and the UK continue to be tensed late into Wednesday evening.
