Father Davis Chiramel is no stranger to humanitarian work. This time he is in the UK with a very unique mission.
Kelkkaam, the suicide prevention helpline which has been running successfully in Kerala is now being launched exclusively for the UK Malayalee community. After replicating Kelkkaam’s success in Kerala and the Middle East, father Chiramel is launching the UK edition this week at the British Parliament.
The mission is to break the language barrier that exists when a UK Malayalee in mental distress talks to a native Britisher. Kelkkaam hopes to build an army of qualified Malayalee volunteers with whom the person in distress can more easily confide his or her troubles.
Father says this would provide immense support to lakhs of Malayalees who otherwise confront a lot of stress and tension in their daily lives in the UK.
Here is Father Chiramel in conversation with Naveen Nair the Editor of The News Monk.
