Dr. Abhinav Pandya, CEO Usanas Foundation and expert on strategic affairs, says that the more revealing part of this episode may not be the offer itself, but the motivation behind it. Washington is trying to “gain back the lost ground which they have lost in the Middle East.” He says that the West Asian countries have “lost faith in American security architecture” and hedge their bets elsewhere — most visibly through the newly formed Mecca defence arrangement between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, which more Arab states are reportedly considering joining. Left unaddressed, Pandya argues, Washington risks simply “losing out to other great powers like China,” who are actively seeking new space in the region.
