Thiruvananthapuram City became a battle ground this morning as CPM workers attacked ED officials returning from a raid at former Chief Minister and current opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan’s house.
They vandalized the cars in which the ED officials were traveling and then had turned against the police in the city. The News Monk learns that a few ED officials suffered minor bruises while the driver of one car was seriously injured in his eye from the glass splinters.
Vijayan meanwhile greeted the media and his workers with a victorious smile showing how one event has given him a new lease of political life which otherwise was going down a very slippery slope. While the ED officials managed to reach a local police station and sought refuge there, the state police has filed FIR and are now on the look out for those who attached the central officials.
Widespread criticism has also been showered on the state police for its inability to give adequate protection to those officials who were doing their duty. ED was conducting simultaneous raids at ten locations across Kerala in a money laundering case where Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter Veena Vijayan is believed to be a prime suspect.
